COLLEGE GYMNASTICS IS BACK!! Week 4, Blog #5

 Well, it's the end of the work and writing week for me!!! I am happy that I will just get to chill and watch the NFL playoff games this weekend!! My Saints play on Sunday afternoon, and I am praying with all of my might that they win!! Also IT'S GYMNASTICS night tonight!!! That's right. College gymnastics is back on TV, and I could not be more excited if I tried!

This is probably the time of the year I am most grateful for the luxury of cable tv! Between the NFL and gymnastics, I get so happy and excitied that I am lucky enough to be able to see the meets on TV. As much as I wish I could go to the LSU meet tonight, I know that it is safer to just stay home and enjoy them.

Plus, we are having some cold weather here so I am just better off inside anyway! I feel like I am blabbing now so let me just wish you a good weekend, and I will see you on the other side on Monday!!

I remember the Atlanta Olympics in 1996 like they happened yesterday. I remember being a young naive little 12 year old glued to the TV as the women's USA gymnastics team went on to become the first team in history to win a gold medal in gymnastics. I remember the feeling I felt when watching these women (who at the time were teenagers), flip through the air so seamlessly. I was AMAZED and since then, I have never looked back and have never once denied my profound love for the sport. In a harsh world where judgment runs rampant, it is important to remember we were all created in our own way. God created us with a light in our soul. The light represents our spirit. Sometimes, just naturally, our lights dim and brighten according to circumstance. Sometimes, in all of the futile chaos of life, we tend to forget about our own self-esteem. The world is so hectic and busy that we get wrapped up in our work. We begin to think that our work is the only thing that matters when we get lost in it. We forget that we are supposed to slow down and relax. We forget that there is more to life than achievement and success. We forget to look in the mirror and appreciate what we see. God has given us a beautiful life with an ordered plan, set just for us. We forget to tell our parents and other loved ones how much we love and appreciate them. My message to GYMNASTS EVERYWHERE!!! (An open letter)

Gymnastics. The hardest sport in the world. Yes, you heard me right. Those girls you see magically flying across the floor exercise mat are nothing short of superhuman. They have dedicated their whole life to working extremely hard so that they can master the skills to wow audiences across the world. Not only that but if they're lucky enough, they can possibly make it on the International Stage and then to the elusive Olympic Games. I would assume that the Olympic Games are the most elite gymnast's dream, but there is a reason the committee is so selective. Only the best of the best make it there, but luckily, there are other choices. One of those choices is college gymnastics. I have loved LSU's college program for almost 24 years. Longer than the current gymnasts on the squad have been alive. I for one fell head over heels in love with gymnastics when the 1996 women's team won the gold medal. That was so inspirational to me.
