LET IT GO!

Everybody comes from something, someone, and somewhere. We may not always associate ourselves with our parents (the someone) due to estranged relationship within the family dynamic. We may be ashamed of the place we come from due to a stigma of our state’s residents. (the somewhere)Finally, if we are living and breathing creatures, we have a past. (The something). We may have regrets from our past such as poor relationship decisions or poor personal choices. As human beings, we tend to hold on to the past. It is almost like we are Guinea pigs going around and around on our “wheel”, ultimately leading to no real destination. We tend to hold grudges when the people who love us most end up hurting our feelings. The grudges then naturally halt the relationship therefore putting even more strain on those dynamics. We may be looking upon the past with a negative attitude because of bad life experiences. When I was a teenager, I was scared by many of the experiences I had in high schoo

Be Kind... A blog about the power of words

It is quite simple to see that the nature of the world is quite twisted and lost. There is a lot going on American soil right now that could have a tendency to make us feel uneasy and on edge. Even more terrifying is what happened recently in Manchester, England. That was certainly proof that there is evil in the world that is virtually unstoppable. This kind of tragedy leaves us all second guessing where we go for events and how well versed and tight the security will be. This is very disheartening considering just two decades ago, the world was a much safer place. There is no doubt that the recent state of the world leaves all of us feeling a little down and distraught. This is why it is of utmost importance to be kind to one another. Kindness is such a simple but complicated concept. If you see someone struggling to get a door open, your act of kindness could be as simple as helping them with the door and then smiling at them with a genuine attitude. If you have the financial

Pressure to be perfect runs rampant in today’s society. The magazine covers at all of the grocery store check outs are adorned with perfect looking celebrities. On the side of the near flawless pictures are tips to become thinner, to become better in bed, or how to achieve the perfect lifestyle. The truth of the matter though is that all of these things are riddled with flaws. There is no perfect person, lifestyle, or body. There is flaws in everything we do and likely everything we have said. This is not meant to be a negative standpoint. I am just in fact pointing out that perfect does not exist in the human realm. I am not saying that this makes me better or worse than the other people around me. I am saying that our flaws make us unique. Just think about how mundane the world would be if we all gave into the pressure to be what is termed “perfect.” Everyone would then be a carbon copy of each other. The uniqueness is what we have to offer would not be considered, and we would

Let’s talk about the topic of success. The level of work you have to achieve to be considered successful is different for everyone. For some, level of success is very much dependent on their level of education. Depending on field of work, some require only a high school diploma where others require you to obtain a PhD. Whatever you feel your niche is, I’m sure it requires hard work and dedication. I also realize that there are those individuals who aren’t really certain what they would like to do with their lives. People who are unsure of what they want to do with their lives have temporary jobs while they are trying to figure out their path of self- discovery. I hope that each person is happy with their job eventually. I know it is no fun to wake up each morning dreading doing a monotonous job which brings you little to no money and leaves you feeling less than successful. In a perfect world, none of that sort of thing would ever happen, but we do not and never will live togethe

Gratitude is one of the most important emotions in human feeling. I believe it is especially important in today’s world where violence and low self-esteem seem to be among some of the top concerns. Sure, there are holidays in the United States such as Thanksgiving that allow us the opportunity to reflect and think about what it is we are most thankful for. While that is a good idea, it is of my opinion that we should be grateful each and everyday. Even if you are having one of the worst days in a long time, you have to remember to be grateful that you were alive and well and given the chance to see another day. Be grateful that your heart is still beating and that you have air in your lungs. There are people who are vigorously fighting for their lives. If you are healthy, you have every right to cherish your life and to give thanks for it. Life truly is a gift that only comes around once so live wisely. Having a grateful attitude within yourself is important, but you also have to r

I had all of this original blog typed up in a word document, but I somehow lost it & it wouldn't copy from my word document for some odd reason. Oops. Hopefully, this technique will work better tomorrow! Anyway, I'd like to welcome you to my quote series of blogs. Each day, I will summarize what each inspirational quote means to me. As an independent writer, I will admit thaat it does have its perks. For example, you can work from home & you get to be your own boss. This means that if you're the type to stay in your pajamas each day, you can surely work while you're in them. I am definitely a routine type gal, and I don't ever go a day without getting dressed, but if remaining in your pj's is your jam, then that is one perk for you! I do enjoy not having to dress to impress and I am allowed to work with less than stylish hair if I so desire. Even though being your own boss is nice, it can be awfully easy to lose track of your tasks and postpone it to t

How coloring has changed my life.

If you can recall, Louisiana, Baton Rouge and surronding parishes specifically, experienced the worst flood in History last August. A few weeks prior to this severe weather event occurring, I moved out to my camp on the Amite River!! I was so excited to finally have the fredom of my own place and somewhere I could call my home. That was until the flood happened. I had gotten five feet of water in the place I was allowed to call home for three consecutive weeks. I remember seeing pictures of the damage and then having nightmares for weeks at a time. Having no other place to go, this also meant that I would have to move back to my parent's old house and in with my sister and nephews. For the longest time, since I had just moved out and given my oldest nephew Jacob my old bedroom, I felt like a bit of a nomad. Since the potential rebuild of my place was set to take months on end, we decided that I once again needed to make a home fo myself in the place I had just been given the freedo

CONFIDENCE

Let's talk about a big trait. Let's talk about confidence. It is a rather heavy word because it ecompasses a lot. It is asking a lot of a person to become confident, especially in today's society where body image is a hyper focused point. From a young age, young girls and boys alike grow up seeing their favorite movie stars in magizines looking extremely buff and fit. Kids by nature like to emmulate what they see as "cool" especially when it is a trend. So, I think it is only natural that they are going to start paying attention to their bodies so that they can begin to look like the people they admire. This is all good until it becomes an issue. If all of a sudden, you notice that your kid starts missing meals and becoming "too thin", this is when body shaming comes into play and self-image becomes less of an admiring trait and more of a self-esteem issue. I'll say this also... I love You Tube more than the average person.. You'll find me watchi

RISE ABOVE

Don't let anything overshadow your courage and positive light; don't give into doubt, rise above it and tell those negative voices in your head NOT TO alter the truth. The lies and self-esteem issues that are transmitted though your negative outlet are there to test you. Testing of character is okay as long as it doesn't taint your self- image. In your life, there are also going to be negatively charged moments, but in the end, it is not how quickly you won the battle, but the steps you took along the way so that you could allow your light to shine. Resist becoming a dim light that remains in the background for accompanying light. Become stronger, wiser, and most of all more believable using your confidence as your greatest asset. Never give up hope, and above all, never toss your strength to the wayside. I bet you didn't know I was superwoman!

I like to think that the idea of having a disability are akin to those of super heroes. No, in case you are wondering, we cannot shoot lasers out of our eyes or jump from building to building using webbing that magically comes out of our hands. The super power most commonly found among the disabled community is an amazing amount of strength and patience. Sure, life in any sense, able bodied or not requires patience, and we all know when we are being pushed to our limits. However, when you live with a disability, every little movement requires an awful lot of strength & a whole lot of patience because our expenditure of energy is much higher than the average person. For instance, I can imagine that if you are able bodied, and you are walking along not thinking about the steps you are taking. It is something that comes naturally for you, much like breathing. However, for those of us with Cerebral Palsy, we must think about every action before they can be done. In other words, our bra
