'It's Christmas!! December 25, 2020!

 The day has finally arrived! My favorite day of the year! Merry Christmas! We are almost to the finish line in this marathon of a year. I know 2021 will probably entail much of the same until everyone that wishes to can get a vaccine! However, I am making the choice to feel more optimistic about the new year. 

I always live by the idea that a new year is a time to start fresh. To wipe the slate clean and begin again. To work hard on the things you would like to see improved. Based on this year, I am sure a lot of people have things they wish to see improve in the new year.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day today surrounded by the ones you love, and if you're not able to be around the ones you love, know that you're in my heart and my mind.  I am having a very low-key and relaxing day as always. We don't usually make holidays a huge thing in my family. I am very laid back so that is the way I like it. We finished opening presents about aUntn hour ago so now I am just chilling at my laptop and listening to music until we have gumbo and potato salad. This afternoon, I will be watching the Saints game! As always, I have been blessed and got a lot of things I will be able to use. :)

I remember the Atlanta Olympics in 1996 like they happened yesterday. I remember being a young naive little 12 year old glued to the TV as the women's USA gymnastics team went on to become the first team in history to win a gold medal in gymnastics. I remember the feeling I felt when watching these women (who at the time were teenagers), flip through the air so seamlessly. I was AMAZED and since then, I have never looked back and have never once denied my profound love for the sport.     Dear Depression,   I wake up in the morning feeling overtired and stiff as a board, and the day has barely begun. I touch my face, and I feel the wetness of the tears that have blurred my once perfect vision. There were so many thoughts swimming through my mind. So many in fact, that it is almost impossible to differentiate between fact and fiction. Dear Simone Biles: An open letter to my hero

 Dear Simone,  I feel like I should begin this letter to you by introducing myself. My name is Karla Culbertson. I am a 36-year-old woman from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I suppose my interest in gymnastics is influenced by my disability. I am wheelchair dependent due to Quadraplegic Cerebral Palsy. As you can probably guess, gymnastics is even more fascinating to me when compared to the average fan because I cannot even walk and to be able to see you defy gravity time and time again is just that much more incredible to me.  My gymnastics fandom was first inspired by the Magnificent Seven in 1996. Once I watched all seven of those women capture the Gold Medal, I was hooked. I remember buying Dominique Moceanu's autobiography and studying the skills index in the back of the book until I was cross-eyed.
